Any ideas for a “peaceful” atmosphere at home?

I’m trying to furnish my first apartment with some style. My idea is to keep is somewhat modern, yet comfortable, and peaceful. I want it clean, but somewhere I can relax and enjoy my time at home. However, I have a problem deciding what furniture to put in what room and what it should look like… wood, metal, wicker? If anyone knows of some great websites… OTHER than Ikea
